Walking in Teesdale

Teesdale offers magnificent walking country - there are so many footpaths and public rights of way for people to explore that it perhaps offers some of the very best and most scenic walking country of anywhere in England - both for the experienced and more casual rambler.

The famous Pennine Way Long Distance footpath and the Teesdale Way reaches the outskirts of the village and there are really lovely gentle riverside sections of these walks that can be enjoyed.

There is such a variety of walks to be undertaken, including excursions into the tributary valley of the Hudeshope Beck, which flows through the village, or nearby Lunedale with it's extensive water areas. There are riverside walks, valley walks and moorland walks to be enjoyed. The scenery is so beautiful and unspoilt and the landscape often so dramatic.

Not only is there the power and splendour of Teesdale's many waterfalls, but there are the farming, leadmining, lime-burning and watermill heritage sites to experience.

There are so many amazing landforms to experience in this beautiful and unique landscape. These include High Force, England's largest waterfall, Cauldron Snout, England's largest and most powerful cascade, Low Force, Summerhill Force, Horseshoe Falls, Gibson's Cave, High Cup Nick....and much, much more.

In addition there is an excellent walking guide available featuring 12 circular walks that can be commenced and finished at our front door.
